The
forgotten glory of the ancient Goguryeo Kingdom is being
revived and remembered! The people
of the Goguryeo Kingdom are the predecessors of the
modern day Koreans. The Goguryeo Kingdom was a culturally
rich civilization founded in 37 B.C. and which lasted
for 705 years until 668 A.D. Modern
day Koreans take great pride in the historical legacy
that has been given to them by their Goguryeo ancestors.
The Goguryeo Kingdom and its monuments were added to
UNESCO's World Heritage list on July 1, 2004. It is
beyond question that Goguryeo is an ancient Korean kingdom.
Its territory extended from the mid part of the Korean
peninsula and the greater part of Manchuria all the
way to eastern Mongolia and Beijing as well. Recently,
China has been claiming Goguryeo as part of its own
history. This can only be viewed as a blatantly imperialistic
infringement on Korean history. We believe with absolute
certainty that a careful review of the historical record
will reveal the truth. The alleged scheme to change
the course of history cannot stand up to the test of
a careful review of the facts. The injustice of
this infringement must not be allowed to continue. The
truth must be acknowledged by China and the world community
at large. China is a large powerful
country with a glorious history. There is no need
for China to engage in acts of cultural imperialism
by attempting to take what is not theirs. The
mission of the Goguryeo History Association is to study,
protect, and disseminate the history of the Goguryeo
Kingdom. At this time we are taking steps to deal
with the preposterous distortion of history initiated
by China. Our intent is to serve as a resource
for international academic communities and government
agencies through the translation of historical materials
related to the Goguryeo Kingdom. If
you have any comments, questions, or concerns related
to Korean history we would be happy to hear from you.
